1 Year in LA as a Blind Content Creator: Chasing Acting, Music, and a Lot of Ubers
I moved to Los Angeles to pursue music and acting after building an online audience as a full-time content creator. One year later, here’s what I didn’t expect.
💌 Welcome to My LA Era
I’ve got to admit, I’m a pretty corny person! The truth is, I really hope that this newsletter will make an impact on each person reading it. Maybe you want to do what I’m doing. Or maybe you think I’m a naive dreamer and you’re here for front row seats to the show. 😂 Regardless, nothing would bring me more joy than sharing my goofy life with you at this make-or-break stage. So without further ado, here’s my honest take on my dream destination.
🕰️ I Was Already Behind When I Showed Up
I feel like I have thought about moving to LA since such a young age, that I failed to prepare for it like the adult that I am now haha. The truth is that there is so much more that I could have done before moving here to give me a “head start” when it comes to content creation, acting, modeling, and music. I could have created portfolios, researched networking events, conventions, etc. Not saying I didn’t do any of that beforehand lol. But, if I had dug a little deeper, I would’ve figured out that I could’ve done so much more. Oh well…guess I’ll do that now while I’m paying LA prices. 😂
🙃 No One Cares Who You Are
As someone who loves to perform and entertain, I felt a little demoralized by the lack of attention I first received in LA lol. The standards here are impressively high haha. Not only when it comes to physical appearance, but people definitely look for the most famous person in the room. I can’t really blame them, considering most people move here to further their career. But on the other hand, I’m the kind of person who will talk to anyone and everyone. I love learning about people’s unique lives and experiences. Especially at a party…because isn’t that how a party is supposed to be? Everyone’s just trying to have a good time, or so I thought lol!
🔥 A Path Is Always There
The first year was shaky, not going to lie. I felt like I was flailing, desperately trying to figure out what direction to go in. I feel much more settled in and comfortable now though. I think these challenges were certainly worth the lessons. I am competitive, AF haha. And I’m a fighter, I think most people in the disabled community are. 🥰 I’m so ready to have my own glow-up to catch up to these beautiful people haha. I’m so ready to grow my portfolios, foster connections, and just kick butt overall in this insatiable industry. ❤️🔥
